Pregnancy & Postnatal Physiotherapy

At Pelvic Wellness, we believe all pregnant women should be in supported by a Women’s health physiotherapist throughout their pregnancy and beyond, into their postnatal journey.

Regardless of the type of pregnancy or mode of delivery, the body experiences various physical and hormonal changes, and physiotherapy can assist in supporting these changes, optimise your recovery and ensure you are able to return to the activity you enjoy doing as soon as possible, in a safe way.

Physiotherapy can assist in effectively treating the following conditions and concerns during pregnancy:

  • Upper back and rib pain

  • Lower back and hip pain

  • Pregnancy related Pelvic Girdle Pain (PRPGP)

  • Difficulty/pain with movement

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Pregnancy Safe Exercise prescription & Guidance

  • Bladder/Bowel/Prolapse problems including leakage issues

  • Birth preparation and education

As well as these concerns in the postnatal period:

  • Healing and recovery post delivery (Vaginal or Caesarian)

  • Breastfeeding issues: engorgement, mastitis and blocked ducts (through the use of therapeutic ultrasound)

  • Abdominal Separation, including doming/bulging (DRAM)

  • Pelvic floor 6 week postnatal check

  • Returning to exercise in the postnatal period, including running
